National Day of Listening

WPSU encourages you to record an interview for the second annual National Day of Listening on November 27, 2009.

On the day after Thanksgiving, WPSU and StoryCorps are asking all Americans to start a new holiday tradition: Set aside one hour to interview a friend, a loved one, or someone in your community about his or her life.

The process is simple: select an interview partner, create a question list, and sit down to record a meaningful conversation. StoryCorps has created a free Do-It-Yourself (DIY) interview guide with step-by-step interview instructions, equipment recommendations, and sample questions.

Participants are encouraged to record National Day of Listening interviews using equipment that is readily available in most homes—from cell phones to tape recorders to computers, or even pen and paper.

About StoryCorps

StoryCorps is an independent non-profit whose mission is to honor and celebrate one another’s lives through listening. It is one of the largest archives of American voices ever created, with interviews gathered from more than 50,000 people in all 50 states.

Each StoryCorps interview is recorded on a free CD for participants to take home and share, and is also archived at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. For more information, visit the StoryCorps website.
